Using Citrix Virtual Applications and Desktops (How-to)

These instructions are for opening virtual applications and desktops from Drake's virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). If you haven't installed Citrix Workspace on your computer, please reference the knowledge base articles for Citrix Workspace VDI. There you will find links for installing Citrix Workspace on a Mac or Windows computer, whether using a personal or Drake-owned computer.


1. Using Citrix Workspace

Open the Citrix Workspace client

  1. You should then see a list of Apps and Desktops available for you. You can switch between the list of Apps and Desktops to the top. In this example Apps are selected.
  2. Click on an App or Desktop to start it.
  3. Alternatively, click the arrow beneath the app or desktop to get more information.
  4. Once expanded, click Open to start an application.
  5. Click Add to Favorites to add the Application or Desktop to the Favorites screen.

2. Using a Web Browser

If the above instructions for using Citrix Workspace don't work on your computer, you can also access your virtual apps and desktops from any web browser.

1. Logging in

  1. Visit https://vdi.drake.edu/
  2. Enter your Drake ID Number and Password.
  3. Click Log in. NOTE: You may need to scroll down to see these fields.

2. Detecting the Receiver

  1. Click Detect Receiver.

3. License Agreement

  1. Check the box next to I agree with the Citrix license agreement.
  2. Click Already installed.

4. Apps and Desktops

  1. You should then see a list of Apps and Desktops available to you. You can navigate between the list of Apps and Desktops to the top. In this example Apps are selected.
  2. Click on an individual App or Desktop to launch it.
  3. Alternatively, click the arrow beneath the app or desktop to get more information.
  4. Once expanded, click Open to start an application.
  5. Click Add to Favorites to add the Application or Desktop to the Favorites screen.
