Setting up PuTTY for Use in MySQL (How-to)

In this article, you will find the step by step guide to setting up PuTTY for use in MySQL Workbench.
NOTE: The steps in this knowledge base article only need to be followed once. If you have already followed through the steps in this article, please reference the article Setting up MySQL Workbench (How-to).

1. Connect to the Zimpleman Desktop in Windows App

  1. Open Windows App. If Windows App is not installed on your computer, please reference the knowledge base articles for Azure Virtual Desktops.
  2. Click on the Devices tab.
  3. Launch the Zimpleman Desktop by clicking Connect.

2. Configure the PuTTY Client

1. Open PuTTY

  1. Click on the Search button (magnifying glass icon) on the task bar.
  2. In the search bar, type in PuTTY.
  3. In the search results, click on PuTTY.

2. Connecting to the server

  1. In the Host Name field, type in data.drake.edu
  2. Click Open.

  1. If you are prompted with a PuTTY Security Alert dialog box, click the Accept button to proceed.

  1. At the login as: prompt, type in your Drake ID number if you are a student. If you are a professor, use your last name as the user name.
  2. Type your Drake Password and press Enter. NOTE: You will not see the characters as you type them.

  1. If the log in was successful, you will see a screen similar to the one above. Log out of the server by typing logout in the shell prompt, or click the X to close the PuTTY session.

You are now ready to set up MySQL Workbench.
