Blackboard Site Creation

Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) is a web-based tool used to organize and deliver materials and engage learners. Users can request custom Blackboard courses for personal learning, sites for units, organizations, working groups, etc.
If the Site Creation request is planned for developing training, certificate programs, or external audiences, ITS staff will likely be asking additional information around the details of the planned training.

  • Requests for sites revolving around training usually take longer to create depending on the expectations of the site and user enrollments.  Please plan no less than three weeks ahead of any deadlines for the course to be created.  This deadline does not include content creation and troubleshooting.
  • Sites around certificate programs will likely need additional details provided beyond what the request form allows. Please specify that your request is including certificate programs so a consultation can be scheduled.
  • External audiences can only be partially supported via Blackboard tool options.  Access will be limited and a consultation will be required before creating course sites for this type of usage.
What to Expect

New course sites will be created within two business days of placing the request if additional information is not requested of the requestor.

In order to request a custom course, the following information will need to be provided:

  • A description of what the course purpose will be (personal learning, working group repository, or other).
  • The preferred course title.
  • The department, unit, working group, or individual that will own the course site, including contact information for the primary instructor.
  • Whether the site will be used during a specific term or on an ongoing basis.
