Using AppleTV to Connect Wirelessly

Drake is updating our classroom wireless display technology from our current hardware to AppleTV. This change provides consistency across campus and expands the locations where wireless display capability exists as well as reducing costs. Use the instructions below to connect your device.

1. How to connect with Mac OS

1. Find the display screen you wish to connect to

  1. Turn on the classroom control system.
  2. On your Mac, select the control center in the upper right hand portion of your desktop.
  3. Select the Screen Mirroring option.

  4. Select the monitor you wish to use by selecting its name.

  5. It may take a few seconds for the initial connection to be selected. Once the initial connection has been established, you'll be asked to provide a four digit code, which is displayed on the projection or television screen you are attempting to use. Type in the AirPlay code and press the return key on your keyboard.

Your entire screen will be mirrored to the selected display at this point.
 

2. How to connect with an iOS device

1. Find the display screen you wish to connect to

  1. Access the control center on your iOS device by swiping down from the upper right hand area of your screen.
  2. Select the Screen Mirroring option which looks like two overlapping squares. In this screenshot, it's just under the Bluetooth symbol in the center of the image.

  3. Select the monitor you wish to use by selecting its name. In this example, the intended display is Carn-Test-AppleTV.
    NOTE: you may have to click on the See More option to see a full list of available displays.

  4. It may take a few seconds for the initial connection to be selected. Once the initial connection has been established, you'll will be asked to provide a four digit code, which is displayed on the projection or television screen you are attempting to use. Type in the code and press OK.

3. How to connect on Windows

1. Connecting to AppleTV from a Windows computer

  1. Begin by going to the AirParrot download page and download the 64bit version for windows.
    1. There is no built in communication for AirPlay in Windows, so a third party app must be installed in order to connect a Windows device to an AppleTV. 
  2. Run Make Me Admin to complete the install.
    1. Note: The license covered by Drake is only for your Drake-issued laptop. If you use a personal Windows computer, you'll need to purchase the license for each additional computer.

2. Launch AirParrot

  1. Once the AirParrot app is installed, you'll be able to connect to an AppleTV.
  2. Click on the AirParrot icon on the desktop or search from your start menu.

  3. The application can be used in demo mode for three days after installation before a license must be purchased. Submit a software purchase request for a license key for AirParrot.
  4. To connect to the AppleTV within the room, read the IP address from the screen and type the IP address into the To field in the app. Then press the arrow next to the address field.

  5. When prompted, type in the code displayed on the screen you're trying to use.
