Accessing Windows Lab Computers from Off-Campus (How-to)

If you are on campus you can go directly to https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/drake-university and follow the directions from this step 3. If you are using a Mac and on campus, you may need to install Microsoft Remote Desktop from the app store.


1. Access Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

  1. If you are not on campus, you will need to use AVD to access the lab.
  2. To access AVD, please follow the direction from this article Using Azure Virtual Desktops (How-to)
 

2. Access the Computer Labs portal.

  1. Once you have successfully logged into an AVD desktop, open a web browser and go to this URL https://remoteaccess.labstats.com/drake-university.
  2. You will see a list of available computers. The list is randomized and will be in a different order each time you access. Click the Connect button next to the computer you want to choose.

3. Download the remote connector

  1. When you click the Connect button a window will open prompting you to download a small file, click the Download button.

4. Open the .RDP file

Locate the .RDP file that you just downloaded. Notice the syntax of the file name. The file you download will be similar.

5. Authenticate against the remote computer

  1. A window will open prompting you to authenticate against the remote computer. In this example, using Citrix, my authenticated credentials were passed off to the remote connection. If you are accessing directly you may have to provide your Drake credentials. Input your nine digit Drake ID number if prompted. 
  2. Enter your current Drake Password.
  3. You may be prompted to prompted one more time to verify the connection, if prompted, click the Connect button.
  4. You will now be successfully logged into the remote computer. You can now access the installed applications as if you were in the lab.

6. Log out of a remote session

When you are finished with your remote session, you must fully disconnect from the computer to allow others to connect.

  1. Go to the Windows start menu.
  2. Select the logged in user icon.
  3. Click Sign out.

Following these final steps will ensure that you are logged out of the computer and end the session.
