Blackboard Learn for Students (FAQ)

Below are answers to some of the questions most commonly asked by students about Blackboard Learn, our campus learning management system (LMS).

Why can't I see my course in Blackboard Learn?
  • Courses remain hidden/unavailable until the instructor makes the course available.
  • It takes anywhere from 24 to 48 hours (depending on the time of day of the registration) to be added to a Blackboard Learn course.
  • If the semester has already started and the course is still not visible on Blackboard Learn, please contact your instructor to inquire about their use of Blackboard Learn for the course.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
  • Blackboard Learn uses your Drake password. If you forgot your Drake password, you can reset it using the Password Manager.
How do I get Respondus Lockdown Browser?
  • Log in to Blackboard Learn. On the Institution Page, scroll down to the section titled "Respondus LockDown Browser for Students". Click on "Download the Respondus LockDown Browser Software" then follow the on-screen instructions.

  • Please note:
    • Respondus LockDown Browser is licensed software. If you search Google for Respondus LockDown Browser to download it, you will not be downloading the correct version of the software.
    • Respondus LockDown Browser software is available for computers, iOS tablets, and Chromebooks, but your instructor has to have those settings included on for the tablets and Chromebooks to work.  If you are using non-PC devices, you need to be sure your instructor is aware and that it is okay to use alternate devices for exams.
Which web browser should I use to access Blackboard Learn?
  • For Windows users, we recommend using either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Please avoid using Microsoft Edge or Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  • For Mac users, we recommend using either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Please avoid using Safari.
Does my device meet the requirements for Blackboard Learn?
Can I access my course on my phone or tablet?
  • Yes. You may either use the mobile web browser on your device or download the Blackboard Learn app from the appropriate app store.
Are there any tutorials on how to use Blackboard Learn?
  • Once logged in to Blackboard Learn, in the lower right corner of any page, you will find a question mark icon (?) that will lead you to resources about the feature in Blackboard Learn you are currently accessing.
