Setting up PuTTY for Use in MySQL (How-to)

In this article, you will find the step by step guide to setting up PuTTY for use in MySQL Workbench.
NOTE: The steps in this knowledge base article only need to be followed once. If you have already followed through the steps in this article, please reference the article Setting up MySQL Workbench (How-to).

1. Connect to the Zimpleman Desktop in Citrix Workspace

  1. Open Citrix Workspace. If Citrix Workspace is not installed on your computer, please reference the knowledge base articles for Citrix Workspace VDI.
  2. At the top of the Citrix Workspace screen, ensure that Desktops is selected.
  3. Click on the Zimpleman Desktop.

2. Configure the PuTTY Client

1. Open PuTTY

  1. Click on the Search button (magnifying glass icon) at the bottom left corner of the Citrix Workspace session.
  2. In the search bar, type in PuTTY.
  3. Double click on the PuTTY Desktop App.

2. Connecting to the server

  1. In the Host Name field, type in data.drake.edu
  2. Click Open.
  3. If you are prompted with a PuTTY Security Alert dialogue box, click the Yes button to proceed.
  4. At the logon as: prompt, type in your Drake ID number if you are a student. If you are a professor, use your last name as the user name.
  5. Type your Drake Password and press Enter. NOTE: You will not see the characters as you type them.

If the log in was successful, you will see a screen similar to the one above. You are now ready to set up MySQL Workbench.
