Changing Your Password (How-to)

Incoming students, faculty, and staff: If you are an incoming student or new faculty or staff member, your initial password has been set to your birth date in the following format: MmmDD#YYYY (e.g., Jan01#1997). You must change your password following the directions below before you can access Drake systems.

Current students, faculty, and staff: After changing your campus password, make sure to immediately update devices with your new password so you can continue to access the wireless network and email on each. Failure to do so will result in you being temporarily locked out of your account.
 

1. Go to the Password Manager

  1. Visit password.drake.edu in any browser.

    NOTE: Faculty and staff should change their password with their Drake-owned computer connected to the wired network on campus. After changing the password, you MUST reboot and log in again while still connected to the wired network. This allows your new password to sync to Drake systems. Faculty and staff may change their password off-campus but will need to continue using their old password on their Drake-owned computer until they return to campus and reconnect to the Drake network.

2. Sign in and Change Password

  1. Enter your Drake email address or ID and password.
  2. Click Sign In.

  3. Click Change Password.

  4. Select and perform your Verification Method using the drop down menu. Options here will depend on recovery methods you previously supplied, whether a personal email address, mobile phone number for text messaging, or the use of security questions. The following steps demonstrate each verification option. Reference the step that matches your drop down choice.

3. Using Email Verification

  1. Enter your Email Address. It should match the partially obscured email in the top field.
  2. Click Send Code.
  3. Go to Step 6.

4. Using Text Message Verification

  1. Enter your Mobile Phone Number. It should match the partially obscured phone number in the top field.
  2. Click Send Code.
  3. Go to Step 6.

5. Using Security Questions for Verification

  1. Enter the answers to the Security Questions you chose. The questions below are just examples. Answers are not case-sensitive.
  2. Click Next.
  3. Go to Step 7.

6. Enter Verification Code

  1. Enter the verification code you received. This example is showing what the screen looks like if you requested the code via text message.
  2. Click Next.

7. Change Password

  1. Enter and confirm a New Password. It must follow the guidelines indicated.
  2. Click Change Password.

  3. You'll then see a Success message letting you know your password has been changed.

     

IMPORTANT: Immediately update your devices with your new password so you can continue to access the wireless network, your calendar, and/or email on each. Restarting each device will ensure you are prompted to enter your new password. Failure to do so will result in you being temporarily locked out of your account.
