Connecting to the eduroam Wireless Network (How-to)

Eduroam (education roaming) is a global wireless network that faculty, staff, and students can use at Drake, as well as at thousands of participating institutions in over 100 countries worldwide. See the links below to find out where you can connect to eduroam:

Once you're connected to eduroam at Drake, you can connect to eduroam networks at all participating institutions when you travel across the state or across the world.

For Android phones:

A few settings to ensure you connect successfully to eduroam from your Android phone:  

  1. EAP method should be set to PEAP (newer phones may set this automatically).
  2. Phase 2 authentication should be set to MSCHAPV2 (newer phones may set this automatically).
  3. CA certificate should be set to Use system certificates. NOTE: If you are using Android 11, this won’t be selectable. If you are using older than Android 11, it will.
  4. Enter drake.edu in the Domain field.
  5. Enter your Drake email address in the Identity field, and Anonymous Identity.
  6. Enter your Drake password in the Password field.

For Mac Computers:

Choose eduroam

  1. Click the Wi-Fi icon on the top right corner of the screen.
  2. Select the eduroam network.

Log in

  1. Enter your email address in the Username field and your Drake password. NOTE: You must log in using your email address and not your Drake ID number to ensure that you can connect to eduroam at other participating institutions worldwide.
  2. Be sure to click the Remember this network box to ensure that the system remembers your email address and password and doesn't ask you to resubmit them.
  3. Click Join.

Verify the certificate

  1. You might then see the below screen asking you to verify the network's certificate. Click Continue to trust the certificate.

Success

  1. If you're successful, you will see a check mark next to the eduroam network listing.

For PC Computers:

NOTE: You must log in using your email address and not your Drake ID number to ensure that you can connect to eduroam at other participating institutions worldwide.

For Windows 11 computers: Choose the eduroam network

  1. Click the Internet Access icon
  2. Select the eduroam network.

Log in

  1. Click Connect. Be sure that Connect automatically is checked.

  1. On the next screen, enter your email address in the user name field and your Drake password. NOTE: You must log in using your email address and not your Drake ID number to ensure that you can connect to eduroam at other participating institutions worldwide.
  2. Click OK.

Verify the certificate

  1. You will then see a screen asking you to verify the network's certificate. Click Connect to trust the certificate (this example is from Windows 10, so your message may appear different).

  1. If you're successful, you will see Connected, secured next to the eduroam network listing.
